TRADE AND INVESTMENT CORRIDORS BETWEEN UK AND SRI LANKA
The British Sri Lankan Association (BRISLA) was honoured to attend a one to one engagement on 5th March 2018 with leading political dignitaries.

Chairman of BRISLA, Dr Zimar Sivardeen met with Rt Hon Liam Fox MP (Secretary of State for International Trade and President of the Board of Trade) and Ranil Jayawardena MP (Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Sri Lanka and Trade envoy for Sri Lanka) at Westminster.

Dr Sivardeen attendance was to represent BRISLA, discussing the importance of bilateral trade between the UK and Sri Lanka in a sustainable manner and sharing his vision for the future.

Mr Jayawardena MP pointed out that £400 million of trade passes from the UK to Sri Lanka however the net direction of trade is in favour of Sri Lanka. Clearly there is lots of scope for further trade and investment between Britain and Sri Lankan in infrastructure, pharmaceutical and manufacturing sectors.

Dr Liam Fox was enthusiastic to engage with Sri Lanka and the Commonwealth and was looking forward to his visit to Colombo later on this year. Dr Fox was very clear that United Kingdom currently has a unique window of opportunity to create mutual trade agreements with other countries.

Dr Sivardeen says, "BRISLA is highly motivated to initiate trade and investment corridors between the two countries. We are happy to support and enhance the development of trade and investment between Britain with Sri Lanka."

"The meeting created interesting debate and it was a honour to present BRISLA's collective views to such an esteemed audience."
