Sri Lankan boy wins full scholarship to prestigious Eton College

Thirteen-yea-old Neo Perera, a Sri Lankan boy living in Harrow, London, received a full scholarship to the prestigious Eton College until he enters University.

Eton College was founded by King Henry VI in the year 1440 and is considered the best English independent boarding school for boys in England. Eton has educated 19 British Prime Ministers and generations of the aristocracy.

Former Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Prince William were among the famous pupils who studied there. Perera gained admission by getting into the top ten at the entrance examination. The scholarship will pay both his tuition and hostel fees. Generally, a student at Eton College has to spend around forty thousand sterling pounds (around SLR 8 million) per annum.

Perera is also a keen sportsman. He played cricket and hockey for his previous school John Lyon in Harrow. He is a good swimmer as well. He is studying to play piano and completed up to grade 3 standard. He has also been selected to follow the Excellence Program hosted by Lord Robert Winston.

He is the son of Nirosh Perera and Nadika Makawitage Perera. He has a 10-year-old sister Namaira.
