Sponsored Walk by Past Pupils of Visakha
On Sunday 9th September the Past Pupils Association of Visakha (PPAV) in the UK, gathered for their annual charity walk, in Regents Park, London.

It was a lovely late summer day when the enthusiastic Past Pupils of Visakha, along with their families gathered together for their 5 mile walk. There was much laughter and chatting as they followed the walk leader along a carefully mapped out route.

They walked through Queen Mary gardens, passed the playing fields to the top of Primrose Hill. After a brief stop at the top for photographs of the stunning views they followed the route back to Jubilee Gardens where the walk commenced. There they sat on the grassy bank and enjoyed a delicious picnic, brought along by the Past Pupils themselves, with the laughter and the chat continuing.

Each year the Association chooses a different charity for which they raise funds. This year they raised funds for 'Sri Lanka Sumithrayo', whose primary objective is the prevention of suicide in Sri Lanka.

In 1995 Sri Lanka had the highest rate of suicide in the world - 47 per 100,000 head of population. In 1996 Sumithrayo launched its rural programme. After 2 years it proved to be a resounding success. The programme was gradually expanded and now it works in over 110 villages. In 2017 the suicide rate had dropped to 15.2 per 100,000 people.

Funds collected by the PPAV will help with the annual cost of field staff at the Sumithrayo Lunugamvehera Centre. A big thank you to all who supported us in our fundraising effort. If you wish to make a donation to this worthy cause please contact The Past Pupils Association of Visakha (UK).
