"Pongal Lights for World Peace" First Street Party in Newham 2017
Newham is the first borough in Europe, which recognised and celebrates the Pongal as "International Tamil Day" by switching on the Lights. On Saturday 14th January at 5.00PM at High Street North, Manor Park London E12 6SA. (Corner of Wordsworth Avenue and High Street North). The Tamil Cultural Dance and Music performed by the Children and Young People. Speeches from Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Business and Young people representatives will take place. Delicious Pongal food will be served afterwards.

Newham is the rich multicultural borough in London, here we speak 140 languages. We have the unique opportunity to celebrate the worldwide festivals with her diverse community. This year we Dedicate this special event for the "WORLD PEACE". Every one in the United Kingdom warmly welcoming 2017 as a Happy, Prosperous and Blessed New Year. We like to share the Love, Joy and Peace with every one around the world, specially with the people in the War Zones facing difficulties also for many Migrants and Refugees.

Pongal is the first festival beginning off each New Year in Tamil homelands. The four-day festival traditionally celebrated in Tamil Nadu India, Malaysia, Singapore, Mauritius, and South Africa and in Sri Lanka. Now it's celebrated worldwide by the Tamil Hindu, Christian and Muslim community. 1st day of pongal is known as Bhogi, 2nd day Surya Pongal, 3rd day Mattu pongal. 4thday Kaanum pongal.

Founder of the festival Cllr.Paul Sathianesan said we Tamils around the world as Hindu's, Christian's, and Muslim's united together beyond our differences in religion coming together to celebrate Pongal as our Heritage and "International Tamil Day". This year lights is for "Peace around the World", Newham is the Promised Land and New Home for many diverse communities from around the world, which recognise and celebrate the Diversity, different culture, food, music, dance and festivals. This year event is a special one for every one, we as British Citizens celebrate in solidarity for the World Peace and warmly welcome the 2017 as a Blessed Year for every one in United Kingdom and around the world. I am proud to see many communities coming together to celebrate this event in style.
