Most Ven. Prof. Wimalarathana Anunayaka Thero
On Sunday the 11th of February The London Thames Buddhist Vihara conducted a memorial service, starting at 6.30 PM to commemorate the life of Most. Venerable Prof. Bellanwila Wimalarathana Anunayaka Thero who passed away on 3rd of February 2018 in Sri Lanka. This special event was organised under the patronage of Ven. Phalagama Somarathana Nayake Thero, Chief Sanganayake of Great Britain, the head of the Vihara & Dr. Herath Kularathne, President of Thames meditation Society

Most Ven. Prof. Wimalarathana Thero was the chancellor of the University of Sri Jayawardanapura since year 2000 and he has been a visiting professor at the school of Oriental & African Studies at the University of London, UK.

He obtained a doctorate (Ph.D) at the University of Lancaster, UK in 1980 . He also served as the Deputy Chief of the Kotte Chapter of the Kalyani Samagri Dhamma Maha Sangha Sabha in Sri Lanka.

A large number of devotees of the Thames Buddhist Vihara including children of the Sunday Dhamma School participated in the Buddha Pooja commencing with observing Pansil delivered by Most Venerable Dombawala Amitha Thero.

This was followed by an introductory sermon in detail about the Anunayaka Thero performed by the Acting Head of the Thames Buddhist Vihara Most venerable Panditha Kohukumbure Siridhamma Thero.

Most Venerable Panditha Dodamgoda Sumedha Thero having been a close associate of the Anunayaka Thero also attended the ceremony and delivered a sermon describing the services rendered by the Most Ven. Anunayaka Thero during his life as a recognised Buddhist Monk.

After a short session of meditation conducted by Most. Ven. Dombawala Amitha Thero everyone chanted pirith and offered merit to the Anunayaka Thero and wished him "May he attain Nibbana".
