London Buddhist Vihara "Dhammassawana" Monthly Dhamma Sermon
London Buddhist Vihara monthly "Dhammassawana" Dhamma sermon for the month of June was held on Saturday the 9th.

Head of the Sri Dharmarama Vihara in Wellawatta, and a teacher at Nalanda College, Colombo, Ven Wathawana Sirisumana Nayaka Thero delivered the sermon based on the Raṭṭhapāla Sutta, 82nd Sutta in the Majjima Nikaya.

Programme was sponsored by Rosy Kudaligama, Kumara Perera, Kunthala Amarasinghe, Sheila Wijewardhana, Jayanthi Sadanayaka and Madhu Perera.

Ven. Thawalama Bandula Thera introduced Ven. Sirisumana Nayaka Thera. The story of Raṭṭhapāla which is the framework of the Sutta is a popular one with the Buddhist community. It is found in the Vinaya, Sutta Vibhaṇga, Parajika, 1.5 and in the Vatamiga-Jataka while the story of Ratthapala is referred to again, by way of illustration, in the Sutta Vibhaṇga. OnceBuddha, as he wandered from place to place in the Kuru country, arrived at the town of the Kurus, named Thullakotthita. During a sermon The Buddha held there a young man of noble birth, Ratthapala, son of a local chief, requested permission to obtain admission to the ascetic life. The story is built around this incident. Ven. Sirisumana Nayaka Thera paid Punyaanumodana for allowing him to deliver the sermon to Dharmapala Trust, Head of London Buddhist Vihara and the Chief Sangha Nayaka Thera of Great Britain Most Ven. Bogoda Seelawimala Nayaka Thera, all the resident monks, sponsors of the programme and every one attended.
