A High Tea with a Difference: Devian Fundraisers
The annual High Tea organised by the Past Pupils Association of Devi Balika is a much anticipated event in the calendars of many. This year, it was held on Sunday 22nd July at Dr. Harshi Boralessa's beautiful garden in Brentwood with more than 60 guests in attendance.

Past Devians, their family and friends were adorned in colourful summer hats and the balmy weather provided the setting for an unforgettable afternoon. Dr. Harshi Boralessa welcomed the guests and reminded everyone that this was an "event with a purpose", which was to raise funds for the Scholarship Fund which provided financial support to exceptional young Devians in higher education in Sri Lanka.

Dr Kusum Subasinghe, a past pupil of the school, and her husband Dr Gnanes Subasinghe, a well-known musician, provided musical entertainment for the evening. Dr Shihan de Silva, also a past pupil and her husband Dr Hemal Jayasuriya also performed some crowd favourites. Guests received printed song booklets and all were able to join in and sing along to popular English and Sinhala songs.

Guests were treated with a lavish spread of food and drinks starting off with a delicious summer punch and canap├ęs, followed by an eclectic mix of fusion dishes including Quiche, Tomato, Basil and Mozzarella Skewers, Cous Cous Salad, Chinese rolls, Patties and Cutlets. For those with a sweet tooth, a tiered summer berry cake, cupcakes, scones, strawberries and ice cream were served along with Sri Lankan tea and coffee. With guests refueled and energised, dancing commenced to familiar baila tunes.

As the sun set, the event came to a close. The guests bid goodbye, in high spirits and a sense of satisfaction, knowing that they contributed to a worthy cause.
