ELBCC New Year Celebrations 2017
This year's new year celebrations organised by East London Buddhist Cultural Centre was held successfully on 16th April 2017 at the Cumberland School. Representing her Excellency Ms Amari Wijewardene, Minister Nimal Karunathilake graced this special occasion as the chief guest. Amongst others local MP Stephen Timms also attended the event as a honourable guest.

The cultural event commenced by lighting the traditional oil lamp and observing the five precepts and a welcome speech which highlighted the importance of the New Year by head of Vihara Ven. Makure Mangala Thero, followed by address by chief guest.

The event comprised with New Year games where both children and adults took part in as this brought a more homely feeling. During the cultural show traditional New Year rituals such as offering betel to parents and anointing oil were performed. Children from Dhamma School took part in different cultural performances including Pooja Dance, New Year drama, Lama gee and Awurudu kumari. Also, the cultural show included a traditional drum performance and Gini sisila performance performed by Mr Atthanayake and his team.

Adults also took part in this exuberant afternoon by performing a comical drama and taking part in dance performances.

Sri Lankans all across the London attended this joyous cultural event. Head of Vihara Ven. Makure Mangala Thero along with other resident monks and the members of the Lumbini Vihara extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who attended this event and to everyone who helped to successfully organise this event.
